Sprint WiMAX live in Boston and key areas
A day after it launched the Samsung Epic 4G, Sprint today grew its WiMAX footprint in three key areas. The 4G-level service is now officially active in Boston, Daytona Beach and Rhode Island's capital Providence. The areas now have the option of unlimited access at the 3-6Mbps downstream speeds estimated for the network. Besides its new smartphones, Sprint is supplying the Overdrive pocket router and its typical USB modem lineup for Macs and PCs.
Pricing for WiMAX depends on the service and device, but Sprint typically charges $60 per month for a plan that gives both unlimited 4G and 5GB of 3G. Those who buy the HTC Evo 4G or Samsung Epic 4G have to pay a $10 premium on their monthly plans, or a total of at least $80 per month.
Sprint currently covers about 51 cities with the faster speeds but has yet to reach New York City or the San Francisco Bay Area.
