LaCie intros ultra-compact MosKeyto USB thumbdrive

Low-profile allows connect and forget


LaCie has unveiled its most compact USB flash storage drive ever, the MosKeyto. Offering capacities up to 16GB in a size that is only 0.7 inches long and 0.35 ounces, the device is short enough to lay flush against a notebook while being stored in a bag. It's also equipped with a nylon strap and a cap to protect it when on the move.

Additionally, LaCie has integrated 4GB of secure online storage from Wuala to further enhance the storage and sharing capabilities of the device. The MosKeyto supports Windows, Mac and Linux platforms and starts from $18 for the 4GB version. Stores should already be carrying it as of today.

    Cool product, but marketing FAIL. That giant bug (which looks more like a black wasp than a mosquito) creeps me out and makes me want to look away.

    Also, that's not flush. And it's not the first drive like that. Maybe the first from LaCie, but... who cares?

    Old news

    Not sure why people notice these things when large brands make them. I've had an EagleTec usb memory stick for 2 years now.

    Note to self

    Note to self: keep an eye out for a similar product costing less, which does not rely on a BUG -- the mosquito, no less, man's most deadly foe (see book with same name) -- as a marketing gimmick. Further note: avoid la Cie in f uture

    Maybe prefer the micro-sdhc readers

    There are transflash/microsd/microsdhc readers that are this size and they take the flash card inserted into the USB connector side. Use those. Then insert a 16GB or 32GB "class 10" memory card. (or class 6 if you want affordable). Much more versatile, upgradeable, and just classier, in my opinion.
