Samsung 50-inch 3D plasma breaks price barrier

Samsung had the distinction of breaking the $1,000 price barrier for a 3D plasma TV as the PN50C490B3D has been dropped to $990 at Best Buy. The 50-inch TV only peaks at a 720p resolution and doesn't include 3D glasses. Regardless, it produces a full 600Hz refresh rate that can handle the enhanced display and is smoother for 2D content as well.

The TV produces a 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and carries three HDMI inputs, two component inputs and one each of VGA and optical audio. No Internet access is built-in, but it carries USB to add an adapter or to play locally stored media.

Availability will vary by the area, but the 3D glasses themselves typically cost $150 per pair when not attached to a PC. [via SlashGear]
