Nuu intros Mini-key add-on iPhone 4 keyboard

Young accessory maker Nuu at IFA showed a new iPhone 4 add-on that promises a fully integrated keyboard. The Mini-key melds a protective case for the Apple phone itself with a slide-out, tilting QWERTY keyboard to reassure those jumping from phones with physical keyboards. The design takes advantage of iOS 4's built-in support for keyboards, although whether it uses Bluetooth or the Dock Connector isn't known.

The peripheral has its own separate battery to power a backlight without draining the iPhone's main power.

Nuu hopes to have the Mini-key in stores by the holidays. The Hong Kong-based company does plan a US launch and expects to price the add-on at $69 for its release in the country. [via MobileMag]

    Bluetooth & Suggestion

Nice! Their webpage includes a Bluetooth logo, so it's almost certainly a Bluetooth keyboard.

Nuu might want to create a free-standing version with a fold-over cover for the iPad and previous models of the iPhone and iPod touch (perhaps with a tray/holder). It'd be much smaller than Apple's Bluetooth keyboard and, if they include i-device specific keys, a lot handier to use than the typical Windows-layout Bluetooth mini-keyboards you find on eBay.

Nuu or someone in this market should go a step further and make a handheld, thumb-operated keyboard where the shift and command-like keys operated by pushing in on the sides or bottom. It'd be quicker and less clumsy.

    For iPad

Would totally buy this for the iPad. Assuming I had an iPad. Woulda bought it for the iPhone too back in the day but now I txt damned fast on it. Also they should have a version that's a vertical slide out like the Pre or torch.

This is beautiful! You know, I've been very happy with how Steve Jobs protects the iPhone and its users from c***, by keeping Flash off it, and by keeping it off monopolistic CDMA carriers. That's why I choose Apple, but one thing that I never truly understood was why he never allowed them to put a keyboard on the iPhone. The on screen keyboard is definitely more advanced then any Android dumbphone's, but its still horrible for major typing, especially with words not in the dictionary (such as pretty much all curse words). This accessory seems great. I would REALLY appreciate it if it ran the kb off iPhone battery power though, my iPhone's battery always lasts far longer then I would ever need and I'm not looking forward to having to charge two separate things. Also, is this going to be compatible with the iPhone 3GS? I wont be getting a 4 until about next year when they're affordable enough to actually buy.

    Hmm

I like the idea, I like the concept, but I'm not sure I'd type much faster than with the on-screen keyboard. Still, kudos for taking the iPhone a step further.

    monopolistic

I'm sorry, since when is ATT not a monopolistic carrier?

And Apple wants to keep flash off the iPhone for Apple's reasons, not just to protect you from c***. If that were the case, there'd be no stupid farting apps in the appstore. But there they are...
