Nikon Coolpix P7000 gets last-minute leak

Nikon's repeatedly rumored Coolpix P7000 semi-pro camera may have been spotted just ahead of a launch this evening. The camera would take more of a direct cue from the Canon G11 with a large optical viewfinder directly above the lens. Accordingly, Nikon Rumors' image would give the camera much more control with two extra, dedicated dials and a function button for programmable commands.

The P7000 is already expected to shadow much of what's known to be coming for the Canon G12, including a larger-than-average 10-megapixel sensor and 720p video recording. Nikon's model would shoot video at just 24 frames per second but would make up for it with a longer 7.1X (28-200mm) lens instead of Canon's 5X.

Two other cameras could be unveiled in sync with the flagship. The S8100 would target the slightly lower end with less control but a 10X lens and 1080p video; the S80 would upgrade the company's slimmer and more style-focused cameras. Full details could come shortly after midnight and are likely to be followed up on September 15 with the D7000 mid-range SLR.
