Audio APIs expanded
Mozilla has released Firefox 4 beta 5, which offers new security features and graphics acceleration capabilities. The latest version supports HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), a security protocol that helps prevent "man in the middle" attacks. The browser remembers which sites use HSTS, ensuring that any connection attempts use SSL.
New audio APIs take advantage of HTML5 elements that expose raw audio data as it plays. Developers can use the APIs to display waveform visualizations, BPM analysis, or a variety of other visual features. Windows users can also take advantage of hardware graphics acceleration through DirectX 10. The browser will automatically use Direct2D to improve graphics performance on supported hardware.
Firefox 4 beta 5 is now available as a free download for Mac and Windows systems.
