Kobo launches free desktop app for Mac, Windows

E-book reader service and hardware maker Kobo on Wednesday announced it has released an app called the Kobo Desktop Application. Free to download, it lets users browse and shop for e-books from their notebook or desktop computers. Users can also use third-party readers to access their digital book libraries thanks to the app.

The app allows for reading e-books offline, and the Kobo eBook Store is built-in to simplify the shopping process. Together with mobile apps for the iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry smartphones and Android devices, users can now sync these devices with their home computers.

Like other apps and in the Kobo reader, readers can customize the font style and size. Bookmarks are moved accordingly when the devices are synchronized. The Kobo Desktop Application is available for both Macs and Windows PCs.
