PLX outs new brainwave hardware
G-Tech has announced that it will be updating its entire line of G-SPEED products with Hitachi Ultrastar drives, while PLX has unveiled a new iPhone product that is said to turn brainwaves into usable digital signals
A new announcement from G-Technology has stated that its entire G-SPEED RAID external storage family will be switching to enterprise-class hard drives. From this point on, every G-SPEED product, such as the G-SPEED Q, G-SPEED eS, and G-SPEED FC XL, will feature Hitachi Ultrastar drives. The enterprise-class SATA hard drives are specifically designed to withstand multi-user, 24x7 storage applications. The Ultrastar drives are rated at 1.2 million hours mean time between failure and undergo additional manufacturing testing at extended temperature ranges to ensure greater quality. This change also makes G-Tech one of the only external storage vendors to offer a complete line of enterprise-class 7,200 RPM drive-based, RAID external storage options designed specifically for the A/V market.
PLX unveils new brainwave interface for iPhone
PLX Devices has revealed a new product for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad that is said to allow users to control the device using only their mind. The XWave is a device that is worn over the head, which uses a variety of sensors to detect and convert electrical impulses into digital signals. The device comes bundled with a free XWave application that is designed to help a user become familiar with the new method of controlling objects. Additionally, the company is also planing to release an XWave Tunes app that will allow users to connect with each other through music that stimulates their brainwaves.
While the devices capabilities are currently limited, PLX is offering 3rd party software developers the opportunity to design new applications through its SDK program. The XWave hardware can be purchased online for $100 and will start shipping in October of this year.
