Indian tablet gains launch date

Sirius XM has updated its mobile XM radio application with background audio support, while HTL Technologies has announced an official release date for the upcoming Sakshat tablet


Sirius XM has updated its XM SkyDock app (free, App Store). for the iPhone and iPod touch with background audio support. The new update adds background audio for all iOS devices running 4.0 or later, allowing anyone to listen to their favorite shows while using other apps. In addition, the update improves dock transitions when used with iOS 4 devices and address a bug that displayed a "Dock not detected" error messages even when the device was docked. The app needs a Sirius XM account and the XM SkyDock hardware ($130).

Upcoming Sakshat tablet gains official launch date

A launch date for the upcoming $35 Indian tablet, now officially named the Sakshat, has been set for early next year. A shipping date of January 10th, 2011 has been set by HCL Technologies, a local computer services firm who was recently awarded with the manufacturing contract from the Indian government. Official specs for the Android slate include 2GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, a built-in camera, and a USB port; however, the official display size is yet to be announced, with rumors of 9-, 7-, and 5-inch variations being put into production. LiveMint has also reported that the Indian government will be providing the Sakshat to roughly one million university students in the second half of the year.
