Nokia shows TV adapter for N8, other phones

Nokia on Thursday unveiled live TV adapter for its flagship N8 smartphone. The Nokia Mobile TV Headset picks up DVB-H broadcasts and lets users watch sports, news and TV shows sent over the air with the standard. It touts the feature as a possible edge since, unlike streaming online content, it consumes less battery and is more likely to work.

The cable in the accessory doubles as an antenna and has in-line controls for volume and channel up and down, along with music controls. A Mobile TV app needs to be downloaded from the Ovi Store to make full use of the device, though some devices will have it preloaded.

Other than the N8, Nokia handsets with USB-on-the-go will also be compatible with the Mobile TV Headset. It's due out before year's end, priced at the equivalent of $51 in Europe.
