27-inch Cinema Display hints in Apple Store

Apple's promised 27-inch Cinema Display may finally be ready to ship as Apple has quietly updated the Apple Store to make references to the new screen. Where the Mac Pro's build-to-order page described both the 24- and 30-inch displays, it now only mentions the 27-inch model. The purchasing options still only allow the older displays for now.

The change could be a clue that the newer screen will arrive on Tuesday, when Apple usually releases new products. Officially, the company has only ever committed to a September release window.

Launched alongside the new Mac Pros themselves, the 27-inch Cinema Display uses the same design as the 24-inch model but borrows the 27-inch iMac's 2560x1440, IPS-based LCD for a larger, wider aspect image. It still has the MagSafe notebook charger, audio over USB and three-port USB hub, but the extra space affords it a more powerful 49W, 2.1-channel speaker system.

    "Buy Now" button is confusing

I wonder how many people checked the LED Monitor page and were excited when they saw the "Buy Now" button on the page? I was. And I was not only disappointed, but surprised when clicking on the button took me to the store page for the 24" model. My problem is that the "Buy Now" button appears linked to the 27" and some people may not even noticed that they're buying instead the 24" until later in the process. Not a major issue, but an oversight that may get some customers very frustrated.

I can't wait to get the 27" myself. Hope it comes to Canada at the same time, though I'm not super eager to be one of the first adopters. A bit of review after launch would be good.

    KVM

If there were an inexpensive, reliable way to hook one of these up to my DVI KVM, and use it with my DVI-Only mac pro, I would be tempted...

A mini-displayport to DVI converter won't do it for you?
