Galaxy Tab shows up on Amazon UK for $1,063
As predicted earlier, Samsung's Galaxy Tab will be priced at significantly higher than its main competitor, Apple's iPad. The Galaxy Tab has shown up in an Amazon UK posting, revealing its price to be £680 with VAT, or about $1,063. The device in question uses a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU, matching the iPad's in terms of clock speed, and gets a 3G data radio, Bluetooth 3.0 and Android 2.2. It has 16GB of storage space and a 7-inch LCD, slightly smaller than the iPad's 9.7-inch display.
In comparison, the most similarly equipped iPad model, a 16GB model with 3G, lists at the equivalent of $827 after tax at Apple UK's online store. The (equivalent) $236 difference may prove an obstacle as it involves sacrificing the larger screen. The iPad mostly struggles in extras, as it lacks Bluetooth 3.0, front and rear cameras or a built-in memory card slot.
Despite the Amazon listing, ship dates for the Galaxy Tab in the UK remain unknown. Samsung has said the tablet will be available in parts of Europe as soon as this week and is expected to have a US debut tomorrow with shipments in the next few weeks.
