Olive Media outs $1,000 music server
Olive Media, known for its music servers such as the $2,000 4HD music server, has just announced its most affordable product, the $1,000 O3HD. The new HD music server has a much smaller internal hard drive, expected to be 512GB rather than the 4 HD's 2TB of built-in storage. The philosophy remains the same, as users rip a CD library onto the drive into lossless FLAC files, which makes them easier to share across multimedia devices and a home theater system.
The server contains a 24-bit/192 kHz DAC to help clean up the digital files, giving users the flexibility of digital music without sacrificing quality, Olive claimed. A color touchscreen acts as the interface. Users can also stream Internet radio stations.
For the money, buyers also get a free iPhone/iPad app that turns the Apple devices into touchscreen remotes. Olive will rip 100 CDs a users sends them for free and preload the music onto the O3HD. When the device ships hasn't been revealed.
