Users can pick specific tracks via Slacker Premium
Slacker has begun previewing an updated version of its streaming music service, which will soon provide access on-demand content. The Premium edition will expand music availability beyond random selections, allowing subscribers to play individual tracks from a particular artist or any other music in the connected libraries. Electronista took an early look at the new offering, which was featured at a special event in New York City.
Users will be able to access the expanded version from the mobile interface on Blackberry, Android and iPhone handsets, along with the web-based portal geared for desktop browsers. Company representatives showed the iPhone app, which presents tabs for the artist bio, similar artists, albums and songs.
The new content will be available with the same range of features provided with the current Plus offering. Music is provided ad-free, with no limits to skipped tracks, while tracks can be cached for listening when a Wi-Fi or cellular network is unavailable.
Slacker Premium is set to launch in November, bringing the monthly subscription fees up to $10. The Plus service will still be available for $4 each month.
