Leak debunks BlackBerry Storm3 shot, likens it to Torch

BlackBerry Storm3 said to be no better than Torch

A purported photo of the BlackBerry Storm3 was challenged tonight by a claim from multiple sources. The tip didn't necessarily label the shot a fake but reinforced the view that it was a modest upgrade at best. BGR was told would look almost identical to the Storm2, with SurePress intact, and on the outside would be slightly thinner and lighter.

The internal specs would be closer to that of the BlackBerry Torch. No mention has been made of an upgrade to the two-year-old processor, but it would have 512MB of RAM to cope with BlackBerry 6's extra demands as well as the newer five-megapixel camera. Faster 802.11n Wi-Fi is likely. Mobile hotspot creation hasn't been mentioned, though the original details suggested it might come after launch.

Most expect the Storm3 to arrive in the fall as a Verizon exclusive in the US and Vodafone in Europe.

RIM's launch if accurate is unusual, as it would leave the company's only touchscreen-only phone virtually untouched in spite of much faster and more advanced competition than last year.
