Photo and video editing for home

Adobe has announced the release of Photoshop Elements 9 and Premiere Elements 9, which are also available together as a bundle. While Mac users will be familiar with Photoshop Elements, today marks the first time that Premiere Elements has been available for the Mac platform. The software offers a portion of the full apps' features at a lower price.

A new feature in Photoshop Elements called the Spot Healing Brush is derived from the Content Aware function in Photoshop CS5; it analyzes an image and helps declutter or repair photos, for instance removing tourists from a crowded scene. Also included is a Guided Edit option, which walks users step-by-step through effects such as Out of Bounds, which can make a photo element appear to leap off the screen in 3D.

Premiere Elements 9 includes an Organizer that lets users tag and view media in a central location. The Auto-Analyzer helps people tag the best content, and also identifies specific faces. In a nod to social networking, a new feature allows creating a DVD-like footage that can be uploaded directly to Facebook.

The Photoshop/Premiere Elements bundle is now shipping for $150. Standalone, each program sells for $100.

    Good idea

For consumers who may want something a little different than iMovie, this fills the gap nicely for either $100 (standalone) or $150 (w/PS Elements, another very handy program).

Finally some good thinking from Adobe WRT Mac owners!
