Toshiba intros notebooks with WiMAX modems


Toshiba on Wednesday announced the upcoming release of four new notebooks with integrated WiMAX modems. Based on existing products, the 16-inch Satellite A665 and 14-inch Satellite M645, 13.3-inch Portégé R705 and 14-inch Satellite E205 each can connect to Sprint's 4G WiMAX network, which is live in 54 cities across the US. The service gives about 3Mbps to 6Mbps downstream.

The A665 can be had with Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 chips and either integrated or NVIDIA's discrete graphics. The M645s get are powered by either Core i3 or Core i5 CPUs and get 500GB hard drives, 4GB of RAM and Harman Kardon speakers. NVIDIA graphics are optional.

The Best Buy-exclusive R705 can most likely be had with an Intel Core i3 CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. The more widely available E205 gets a Core i5 CPU and NVIDIA's GeForce 310M GPU, along with a backlit keyboard and a DVD drive.

The A665s with WiMAX start at $805, the M645s at $760, the Portégé R705-P35 at $900 and the Satellite E205 at $1,080. All four begin shipping on September 26.
