Apple TV pre-orders prepping for shipment?

updated 05:45 am EDT, Thu September 23, 2010

Credit cards having $99 payments debited

According to a number of customers who pre-ordered an Apple TV, their credit cards are being debited for $99 by the Apple store. Typically, Apple only debits cards for pre-orders when the shipping product is imminent.

The new Apple TV is a significant redesign of the previous generation, in both its hardware design and the way it functions. Using Apple's new AirPlay feature, the device emphasises media streaming from user's computers, the cloud, or from iPads and iPhones. There are also a range of third-party vendors supporting the new AirPlay feature including Denon, iHome, Marantz, JBL, and Bowers & Wilkens.

    Projector Dongle?

Would be cool with a small dongle to a projector, incl. a wifi antenna or a cat5 port, so meeting attendees can stream presentations from iPads/iOS devices to the projector in the room.

No more display cable and screen rez mess.. !

    Re: dongle?

Would be cool with a small dongle to a projector,

HDMI to DVI/VGA isn't good enough?

incl. a wifi antenna or a cat5 port,

Why would you need either? The AppleTV has both.

so meeting attendees can stream presentations from iPads/iOS devices to the projector in the room.

Um, exactly how are they streaming a presentation to an AppleTV? Did I miss the part where Steve said the new AppleTV would allow you to mirror the display of your iDevice? For all I heard it did was allow you to push video to the thing. And most presentations aren't video, they're Keynote/PowerPoint deals, with slides and user interaction and discussion and the like.

No more display cable and screen rez mess.. !

No, you just replace it with "Hey, what do you mean if I don't have an iDevice I can't make a presentation?" mess.
