T-Mobile leak shows G2 preorders Sept 24

An escaped T-Mobile memo tonight has given away that T-Mobile will start taking preorders for the G2 on Friday, September 24. The TmoNews scoop has the network taking preorders online, in stores and through upgrades from tomorrow through to October 4. As inadvertently confirmed earlier, the actual launch will take place two days later, on October 6.

The G2 should cost $200 on a two-year contract.

T-Mobile's phone is virtually identical to the similarly HTC-made Desire Z and differs primarily in its support for T-Mobile's native HSPA+ 3G frequencies as well as software. The Desire Z will run HTC's usual Sense UI, but the G2 will run a stock version of Android 2.2 with the new Google Voice widgets and should get much faster updates as a result. A five-megapixel camera and a 3.7-inch LCD are common to both QWERTY sliders.
