Sales expected to hit 500,000

Logitech has reportedly begun shipping its Revue set-top boxes to retailers such as Best Buy. Total shipments are expected to surpass 500,000 units by the end of the year, industry sources affiliate with component makers have told DigiTimes.

A similar number of Google TV-enabled devices are expected to be sold by other manufacturers. Taking Sony's televisions into consideration, Google TV may reach more than 1 million households by the end of the year.

The market for set-top boxes is currently undergoing a significant expansion, as a variety of competing devices are scheduled to launch before the holiday shopping season. Apple has already begun shipping its latest Apple TV offering, while Boxee is preparing to release an Atom-based Boxee Box. Similar offerings are also on the way from Acer and Asustek.

The Revue carries a $299 price tag, however a recent report suggests DishTV may offer its customers a subsidized price of $179 plus a $4 DVR fee.
