First Android phone for Virgin Mobile prepaid

As promised, the Samsung Intercept has begun shipping for Virgin Mobile prepaid phone plans. The Intercept is one of the first prepaid Android smartphones in the US and has the full slate of features, such as 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS , and Wi-Fi. The QWERTY slider ships with Android 2.1.

Virgin Mobile will offer the Samsung Intercept for $250 without a contract when attached to its unlimited text and data "Beyond Talk" plans, which start at $25 per month for 300 minutes of talk time. The Intercept will be available at other Virgin Mobile retail outlets this month, and on the Virgin Mobile website on October 15.

Sprint also offers the Intercept as an option. Sprint prices the smartphone at $100 with a two-year contract.
