Samsung Galaxy Tab priced well over iPad in UK
Samsung's Galaxy Tab today received official UK pricing from retailers that puts it well above the iPad. Dixons, PC World and other stores should carry the low-end seven-inch tablet for £600 with tax, or $950. The cost comes despite the larger Apple tablet costing £529 ($838) for a model with the same 3G and 16GB of storage.
The tablet should be subsidized with all UK carriers but will need a contract and locked 3G to reach the lower price. British stores should get both locked and unlocked versions on November 1.
Pricing in the US is likely to be lower for the anticipated mid-October release, but the cost presents a potential barrier to Samsung's early adoption. The Galaxy Tab has front and back cameras but otherwise doesn't have major hardware advantages and also currently lacks a pure Wi-Fi version, which lowers the price of entry for an iPad to £429 ($680).
