Company still gauging demand
Lenovo is reportedly mulling the idea of a ThinkPad tablet geared for enterprise customers, although the company has yet to commit to such a project. Senior vice president of Lenovo's Think Product Group, Peter Hortensiuis, suggests a ThinkPad tablet would serve as a complement to PCs in many business environments.
"As it makes sense we'll absolutely enter that market," Hortensius told Computerworld in an interview. "I think we have a great foundation from which to build for that."
The computer maker is preparing for a December release of the IdeaPad U1, a hybrid tablet aimed at the consumer market. The hybrid design, which includes a detachable keyboard, will be based on the company's upcoming LePad tablet, which is based on Android.
Hortensius provided few details regarding the ThinkPad tablet, although the device is expected to focus on long battery life and a variety of input capabilities. The company will make its final decision after gauging customer demand and adoption of tablets in enterprise environments.
