Business adopting multiple mobile platforms

Enterprise mobility company Good Technology has released a report highlighting the recent successes of iOS and Android devices in enterprise markets. Both platforms are credited with helping to drive changes in businesses, many of which are now catering to employee requests for choice between different mobile devices.

"More than ever, consumers are strongly influencing IT decision makers based on their personal mobility choices," said Good Tech senior VP of corporate strategy John Herrema.

In less than two months following Apple's iPhone 4 launch, the device quickly became the most frequently activated device on Good's enterprise systems. The iPad also showed similar strength, quickly jumping into the top five devices among Good's business customers.

While iOS devices accounted for more than 50 percent of Good's new activations between June and September, Android represented nearly 30 percent of new activations in the same period. Motorola's Droid X was said to be the most frequently activated device in September.

The success of iOS and Android appear to come at the cost of competing platforms such as Windows Mobile, which only represented 15 percent of Good's new activations in the past three months. Separate reports suggest BlackBerry may be following a similar path, although RIM does not disclose activation numbers for its own enterprise e-mail service.
