Garmin to have Windows Phone 7 device in early 2011

updated 11:40 am EDT, Thu October 7, 2010

Two more Android handsets also in the works

Garmin-Asus is reportedly preparing a Windows Phone 7 device, which is not expected to arrive on the market until early next year. The company also plans to expand its Android-based lineup in the Taiwan market, with one to two devices expected before the end of the year, according to a DigiTimes report.

The Windows Phone 7 announcement arrives only a month after executives admitted that Garmin's smartphone endeavors have not been as fruitful as the company had anticipated. CFO Kevin Rauckman suggested the company might consider pulling out of the smartphone arena sometime in the next year if the lackluster performance continues.

Garmin has yet to announce specific details regarding its Windows Phone 7 device.
