Windows Phone 7 to catch up with copy-and-paste in 2011

Microsoft confirms copy-paste text for early 2011M

Microsoft as part of its Windows Phone 7 event confirmed that the mobile OS would add copy-and-paste text in early 2011. Team leader Joe Belfiore promised that every launch WP7 device onwards would get an update to add the feature. The Microsoft-controlled update system should let it reach the devices at the same time rather than the months-long delays that have affected Windows Mobile.

The software developer also gave a brief explanation of how the method would work and suggested to CNET that it would work somewhat like the iPhone's system. Tapping on a word will select it and let users expand to cover the content they want to copy or cut. Pasting isn't yet determined but may follow a similar format to Apple's, where users pick a location and tap a paste button to put in relevant text.

Microsoft had been criticized for leaving out copy-and-paste text and creating a gap between itself and Android or iPhone, both of which have had similar features for as much as over a year. The company has countered by saying it considered WP7 a reboot and that it was willing to temporarily leave features out to get the platform launched in time for the end of the year.

The current WP7 keyboard: no copy-and-paste, but auto-correction

    Fail

This news is desperate damage control by Microsoft. They know everyone will say Windows 7 sucks because of no copy-paste, so they're already making excuses. FAIL!
