Toshiba R700 adds 4G support in US

Toshiba in the night launched 4G-capable versions of the Portégé R700. The 13-inch ultralight's new variants have a built-in WiMAX modem to get faster Internet access on either Clear or Sprint. The new models are all uprated as well with least a 2.4GHz Core i5 processor.

The series starts with the S1322W edition, which at $1,349 has the Core i5, Intel graphics, a 320GB 7,200RPM hard drive and a DVD drive, even with the three-pound total system weight. Switching to the S1332W at $1,699 brings in a 2.66GHz Core i7 and a 128GB solid-state drive.

Both Portégés are available through stores today, though to use the WiMAX connection requires living in one of the 54 cities currently getting Clear or Sprint 4G service as well as a mobile data plan.
