Microsoft may finally up Xbox Live cap
Microsoft in a German Facebook post (since pulled) implied that the upcoming Xbox 360 Dashboard update will finally eliminate the 100-user friend cap on Xbox Live. It explained that "you can now [have] up to 1,000 friends [on] your friends list" and suggested using Facebook to help get more. Electronista has verified that the beta Dashboard update doesn't raise the cap, but Microsoft could implement the update by the November 4 launch of the Kinect or else in a smaller update later.
The company hasn't commented on the post or explained its plans.
Gamers have been petitioning Microsoft to raise the limit since the launch of the Xbox 360, if not before, but the company has repeatedly explained that legacy compatibility for the original Xbox prevented it from making the move. Until recently, Halo 2 was one of Microsoft's most popular titles years after the newer console took over. The decision to phase out original Xbox Live service this spring is widely known to have been implemented with eliminating the 100-player cap in mind. [via Joystiq]
