Aliph's "Nerd Dongle" hits FCC, may help Bluetooth-less PCs

Aliph Nerd Dongle may pair Jawbone to PCs

An unusual FCC filing discovered today has suggested that Aliph is branching out beyond pure headsets. Nicknamed only the "Nerd Dongle," its only technical details reveal that it runs on the 2.4GHz wireless frequency used by Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It superficially resembles a USB adapter like the "nano" receivers used by Logitech and Microsoft and has the Jawbone branding of Aliph's existing headsets.

The dongle may be similar to those bundled with some Bluetooth headsets to provide the wireless format to a computer that doesn't already have Bluetooth support, such as most Windows desktops or some mostly older Macs. Current Jawbone headsets normally assume the owner is using a smartphone.

An FCC test doesn't normally give a clue as to launch details, but the final products usually arrive within weeks of their approval at the US agency. [via Engadget]
