Nikon D7000 sales kicked off ahead of schedule

Nikon's much anticipated D7000 DSLR is now getting unboxed by several users, as rumors that the camera arrived in Best Buy stores proved true. The D90 successor was supposed to go on sale starting on Sunday, October 17, but it appears several stores have broken the rule, with at least one new owner picking it up on Thursday. The camera lists for $1,200 body-only or $1,500 bundled with an 18-105mm lens.

The new shooter features a 16.2-megapixel sensor and can record 1080p videos with continuous autofocus and a stereo mic input. Its housing is now made of magnesium, rather than plastic, and sports weather-resistant seals. There are dual SDXC memory card slots, a virtual level and wireless flash sync. Nikon's optical viewfinder now gives 100 percent coverage for proper shot framing. A new 39-point autofocusing system was used, and the ISO range is expanded from 100 to 25,600.
