Innvo Labs to offer limited Pleo Reborn numbers
A new and improved Pleo robot dinosaur is being made and sold overseas, according to an Engadget report. The new to is called the Pleo Reborn and features some upgrades compared to the 2009 original. Innvo Labs CEO Derek Dotson said its Hong Kong parent is selling the device, and one fan bought it at the Hong Kong Electronic Show for the equivalent of about $500.
The Reborn sports a lithium-polymer battery that is said to provide two hours of life, a thicker, more realistic skin and an RFID chip that is said to stimulate a sense of smell that lets the dinosaur detect toy food, take medicine and learn new features. Four touch sensors were added, along with a temperature sensor, gravity sensor and an internal clock. The Reborn can also recognize basic voice functions, and its motors are more advanced.
The packages indicate that both male and female versions of the Dino will be released. Dotson hasn't confirmed a US launch or prices, but did suggest very limited quantities will be available later in October.
The full interview with Innvo CEO Derek Dotson is available on the BobThePleo forums, detailing the changes and features of the new toy robot.
