Harman Kardon tweaks formula with SoundSticks III

Harman Kardon ships SoundSticks III speakers


Harman Kardon today updated one of its seminal computer speaker lines. The SoundSticks III preserve the sound and the distinctive, Apple-themed translucent look but addresses some of its common quirks. A satellite power switch makes it easier to turn them off, the audio is now braided, and the design now has white light instead of blue to better match the latest iMacs and MacBooks.

The modern design still uses a 3.5mm audio jack for input and puts through 20W of sustained power through its subwoofer as well as 10W through each satellite. Harman Kardon still commands a premium for the SoundSticks and is pricing the III line at $210. Stores should carry them today.

    the audio cable

    the wires are braided together. Wonderful & filled with meaning.
    Especially when listening to the Goldilocks audio book. Or Rapunzel.

    Matching?

    What macs exactly do they match though? I don't think Apple has shipped a translucent Mac in a few years. The last translucent product I can really think of would have been the last version of the Pro mouse before the mighty mouse. After that it's pretty well aluminium or white plastic...

    Still have the SS1

    I purchased the Soundsticks 1 (Original) with my G4 Cube. To date (and LONG after I retired my G4) it's the oldest, longest used component on my desk. Still love them.

    power

    Actually the power switch is not on the satellite(s) but on the subwoofer. The buttons on the satellite control volume and holding both mutes the system.

    This is according to the user manual on the site btw

    iSub....

    iSub is really great, and, the more outputs (cones) the more sound you get as far as the sats.
