Microsoft posts Windows Phone 7 sync app for Macs

Microsoft intro Windows Phone Connector for Mac

Microsoft as promised has launched a native tool for Mac users who need to sync Windows Phone 7 devices. Windows Phone Connector for Mac's beta pulls in unprotected music, photos and podcasts from both iTunes and iPhoto. It also uses Microsoft's newer Autoupdate feature to check for and load firmware upgrades over USB instead of having to go over-the-air.

The app should work with every current WP7 device regardless of carrier, including devices like the HTC Surround or LG Quantum. Despite the Windows Zune app's support for media players like the Zune HD, however, the app is reflective of its name and won't sync any of Microsoft's MP3 players. Using the beta needs at least Mac OS X Leopard.

    Why?

    MS releases a product several years behind the curve. Whats the point?

    I forgot

    All MSFT products available for Mac are always alpha or beta, never golden master.

    The point is..

    to allow Mac users to use Windows Phone 7. Dummy. Why? Because when there is competition, everybody wins, in particular, consumers.

    The "halo" effect

    This is Microsoft's attempt to bask in the glow of Apple's halo.
    Ride those coattails, Ballmer. You'll be unemployed zune. Er, soon.

    NO, don't do it

    Under no circumstances allow Micros**t access to your Mac's system.
    You have been warned.

    @bob3234

    When blatant flaws abound in a so-called 'final' or 'golden master', I still call it alpha. Office 2008 is a perfect example. 2011 is about the same.

    My standards are higher than that of MSFT.
