No custom ringtones in Windows Phone 7 devices

Microsoft has not built a custom ringtone feature into Windows Phone 7 OS, but some handset makers and carriers are adding a few choices of their own. It's possible ringtones could eventually be purchased in the Marketplace, but this is not yet the case. The HTC Surround from AT&T gets what appears to be between about 50 and 75 different ringtones, though none are customizable. About 30 of those look like they came from Microsoft, while the rest are from AT&T.

Other Windows Phone 7 devices will have a choice of their own ringtones that may differ from these, and the selection is likely to vary somewhat in the same handset from different manufacturers. [via PocketNow]
