Windows 8 due in 2012, says Dutch Microsoft site
The next computer operating system from Microsoft, Windows 8, may be out in 2012, according to a reference on the software giant's Dutch site, meant to celebrate Windows 7's birthday. The mention has since been pulled, but a transcript has been saved before this happened. This is in not in-line with an earlier report that had the OS' release slated for the summer of 2011.
The timeline, if true, would put the beta release of the OS sometime in June or July of 2011. While changes compared to Windows 7 aren't clear, it is believed Windows 8 will bring with it improved anti-piracy security measures.
At the same time, Microsoft Netherlands let it slip that Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is coming out in the first half of next year, as it is now in the testing phase. [via Windows8beta]
