HP Envy 17 3D notebook dated, priced

The HP Envy 17 3D notebook introduced at the start of September will begin shipping from HP on November 5. The base system starts at $1,600, and for that money, buyers get 3D active shutter glasses, a quad 1.6GHz Core i7 CPU, a dual-layer Blu-ray writer and 6GB of RAM. The GPU is a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 with HDMI output.

The 17.3-inch screen has a 120Hz panel to generate 3D and outputs natively at 1080p. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are standard. A 500GB, 7,200RPM hard drive is stock, with up to a 2TB, 5,200RPM unit available. Buyers can also opt for a dual drive setup that consists of a 160GB SSD and a 640GB, 7,200RPM rotating disk. There is a built-in 2.1-channel Beats audio system to match the visuals.

Other major options include 1.73GHz or 1.86GHz Core i7 CPUs, 8GB of RAM and an oversized nine-cell battery. A six-cell battery is standard.
