Now has rechargeable batteries, per requests

Portable Sound Laboratories have launched a new version of their popular iMainGo self-contained speaker, the iMainGo X. The device, which weighs just nine ounces, acts as a housing and portable stereo speaker for nearly every model of iPod or iPhone, as well as other handheld audio devices like Zunes and other MP3 players. For a small speaker, the iMainGo line sports good-quality bass and overall stereo reproduction, and can either house a small player inside itself or be used as an external speaker for any device with with a 3.5mm connection, such as Kindles, iPads, laptops and even electric guitars.

The new model comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery in response to customer feedback, as well as two headphone jacks and mic input. The speaker can even be "daisy-chained" with additional iMainGos to add more sound and each unit has a clear screen that allows operation of the housed player without having to remove it.

Battery life is rated up to 12 hours, and features measurements of 5.7 inches by 3.8 inches by 2.4 inches. The iMainGo X is now available, comes with a charger, custom travel bag and two carry straps, and retails for $70.

    Jeez...

That thing is so unbelievably ugly. And seriously... when they are 2 inches apart, do you really need stereo speakers that only serve to make the cone size smaller and therefore sound tinnier? I swear by my amazing Altec Orbit and wouldn't go anywhere else for portable sound.

    On the other hand,

The previous model (which I have) runs a long time on the standard batteries (4 double A?) and has pretty good volume and pretty good sound quality.
It's compact and pretty handy while traveling. It does not require being open (a big bonus to me as far as design logic goes) in order to listen to music, and it's price was right.

Now if they would build one slightly beefier so I could strap it to my scooter and listen to music on the freeway... ;)
