Garmin Approach S1 brings GPS watches to golf
Garmin brought out a unique addition to its golf GPS mix today in the Approach S1. The wristwatch is the first tailored to the sport and uses maps of 14,000 golf courses to find the distance in yards either to the hole, the middle of the green or the start. The at-a-glance distances give golfers a quick way to decide on their choice of club and, as a pedometer, works to track the distance of the last shot.
The design isn't exclusively golf-oriented device and works as an odometer as well as a typical watch. Garmin portrays the S1 as hardened and waterproof, and it can last eight hours of non-stop GPS use on its rechargeable lithium-ion battery or three weeks as a regular watch.
Garmin hasn't said how soon it plans to ship the new Approach watch or how much it will cost.
