Xbox 360 Dashboard getting mandatory update Nov 1

Microsoft late on Saturday sent a notice to Xbox 360 gamers that it would push a required Dashboard update to systems on November 1. While not made explicit, it's possible if not likely the update will represent the upgrade to Kinect and many of the other features promised earlier this year, such as a refined interface with support for Kinect navigation, better parental controls, Video Kinect chats and Zune Pass music support. A new layout, new fonts and new colors are part of the changes, Microsoft said.

The update isn't small and should take about five to 10 minutes. Unlike some Dashboard upgrades, Microsoft is warning that the new firmware upgrade is mandatory and that users who don't update won't have access to Xbox Live. Offline modes will work regardless of the update.

I bet it will up the price of Live and contain even more ads, typical Microsoft behavior. Thank God I own a PS3, not a sucky overpriced 360.
