Panasonic GF2 camera may launch soon

A sequel to Panasonic's extra-compact GF1 may launch this week based on leaks of both official and unofficial information. South Korea's Radio Research Agency has listed the GF2 as registered on Monday. Two sources for 4/3 Rumors, meanwhile, claim both to have seen the device and to know that it should be unveiled within a matter of days.

The design is purportedly smaller still than the GF1 and would be one of the smallest mirrorless interchangeable cameras ever, possibly challenging Sony's NEX series for size. Its shape is allegedly "incredibly sexy" but would still use the 12-megapixel sensor of the G2. Insiders didn't know whether or not the pop-up flash or other features would translate to the new camera.

Despite the possibly imminent launch, the GF2 wouldn't ship until early 2011 and would leave the GH2 as the only new-generation Panasonic pro camera shipping before the end of 2010.
