WiMAX reaches Hartford, New Haven, other cities

As expected, Sprint and Clearwire have activated 4G service in New York City and several additional regions. Service in New York now extends to all five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Other markets include Hartford and New Haven, Connecticut; Trenton and New Brunswick, New Jersey; and Tampa, Florida.

WiMAX coverage currently reaches over 60 markets across the US. Before the end of the year, the companies will add San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami and several other cities.

The technology supports typical download speeds ranging from 3Mbps to 6Mbps, with optimum speeds up to 10Mbps in certain situations. Customers can connect to the WiMAX network with the HTC Evo and Samsung Epic smartphones, along with a range of mobile broadband devices.
