Company claims success with 28-day window

Time Warner is considering a policy change that may bring longer delays for content brought to rental services such as Netflix and Redbox, according to a Bloomberg report. The company suggests its current delay has proven successful, although a change would not be brought until sometime in 2011 when the current deals with partners are set to expire.

"So far the 28-day window has clearly been a success versus no delay," CEO Jeff Bewkes said during a conference call. "The question of whether we ought to go longer is very much under scrutiny. It may well be a good idea."

The company also promises to show brand new movies through video-on-demand (VOD), before the titles are out of theaters. Such a move, expected sometime in the middle of next year, poses another potential problem for partners such as Netflix and Redbox, as well as theaters.
