HTC WP7 devices selling out in Australia, Europe
HTC has had stronger sales than it expected for its Windows Phone 7 devices in the launches so far, Taiwan-area phone makers claimed on Wednesday. Phones like the HD7 and 7 Mozart were already selling out at O2 Germany and Australia's Telstra respectively. Low supply problems were a factor, but there was also surprise interest, they told Digitimes.
Interest was also high for LG and Samsung, although the industry insiders were cautious not to suggest it was necessarily a reflection of long-term reception. First buyers are usually either early adopters or else loyal to the brand, they said. Microsoft has purportedly grown confident for the American launch on November 8 as a result of the Australian and European performance.
News of the strong sales would contradict the early queues, where few actually lined up, but if accurate would imply a stronger, more consistent launch result than before. Microsoft is spending $500 million on marketing and has been hoping for relatively strong attention to the launch but hasn't given or leaked out any publicly available sales estimates.
None of Microsoft's sales are believed to be significant challenges to other smartphone rivals in the short term, since most multi-platform manufacturers are still focused primarily on Android and are significantly below Nokia, Apple and RIM in world market share.

Of course.
I seem to recall that some company out in Washington state was giving one to all their employees.
