Dell Inspiron Duo teaser hints at solving Windows tablet woe

Dell posts Inspiron Duo teaser video

Dell on Thursday posted a teaser clip (below) for the Inspiron Duo, its attempt to bridge netbooks with hand-portable tablets. The video highlights its signature display, which rotates 180 degrees and lets users work in touch-only mode, but also highlights some of Dell's plans to solve the lack of full tablet support in Windows 7. The interface appears to be an expansion of what Dell has done before and has a dedicated portal for e-book reading along with a fuller interface that lets users stay in the touch environment rather than revert to the trackpad and keyboard.

Dell has still been silent on many of the details of the Inspiron Duo, although it will have a cradle for at least video watching. With a likely 10-inch display, it may still have the performance of a typical netbook but should carry a cost premium for the screen.

The system has still only been promised for a launch before the end of the year and may arrive in sync with the promised seven-inch Android tablet. Dell has been pressing hard to compensate for its lack of a direct competitor to the iPad and plans a slew of tablets in the next year to experiment with what might work.
