Google looks into Android Gmail attachment flaw
Google on Tuesday said it was looking into a major issue that was preventing many Android users from downloading attachments in Gmail. Many of those using Gmail 2.3 can't open the content regardless of the underlying Android version or the device. The issue can also appear for those with a recent Android phone where Gmail was already updated, such as the T-Mobile G2, but where an over-the-air update changed the Gmail version.
The issue doesn't have a known cause and has frustrated even Google, which said it didn't have an idea of the cause behind the flaw. It has taken to creating a dedicated page to help users get in direct touch and send diagnostic information that it can use to try and identify the problem. One user had success solving the issue by being removed from an Exchange server, but the issue has neither been repeated nor verified as the root cause.
The bug is a potentially major obstacle for Google. In addition to affecting one of the most important aspects of Android, the error has arrived just as Google is counting on Android and is about to release Gingerbread, or Android 2.3. [via Engadget]
