OWC launches 750GB, 7200rpm portable hard disk options

Drive can be had with FireWire 800 or USB 3.0


Other World Computing -- OWC -- has launched 750GB portable hard disk offerings spinning at 7200rpm. The Mac-based hardware sales company is shipping the OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro drive in four connectivity options, offering the portable cases with USB 2.0, USB 3.0, a combo interface of USB 2.0 and FireWire 400 and a triple interface, with FireWire 800, 400 and USB 2.0. The 750GB hard disk can be purchased for internal installation as well.

The acrylic external cases are bus powered, offer fanless cooling and are rated for as high as 170MB-per-second data transfer speeds, dependent on the connection used. Each drive ships with software that includes Carbon Copy Cloner and ProSoft Engineering's Data Backup. Purchasers can also get a large discount on ProSoft's Drive Genius v3 if purchased at the same time.

The drives ship with cables, software and a carrying case. The bare drive is $125, while the OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro 750GB 7200rpm USB 2.0 drive is $135, the USB 3.0 version is $150 as is the FireWire 400/USB 2.0 combo. The Triple interface, featuring FireWire 800 is $180.
