NEC to ship LifeTouch tablet with Android soon

Japan's NEC on Wednesday announced the near launch its LifeTouch tablet. The seven-inch, 800x480 tablet uses Android 2.1, and NEC says it combines the functionality of a cellphone and a PC. Meant mostly for corporate users, the tablet has a four-way direction pad and can be operated with an included and hidden stylus.

Storage comes in the form of an SD card, and Wi-Fi is onboard for connecting to the Internet. Processing comes courtesy of an ARM Cortex-A8 CPU with 384MB of RAM, along with 1GB of ROM. Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, a three-megapixel camera and an accelerometer are standard, while a 3G radio and infrared communication can be optioned up. NEC claims up to eight hours of life for the tablet.

NEC says it will provide customized services for corporate customers and allow for development of original application software.

The company expects its tablet to be used for reading e-books, online shopping, entertainment, mobile sales, ordering and more. The device will ship in Japan starting on November 30, though prices have not been announced. [via Impress]
