Hanvon device to ship February 2011

China’s Hanvon 9.7-inch color e-reader, the first to utilize the new E Ink Triton ePaper display, is now available for pre-order. It is set to launch in February 2011. It will come in a Wi-Fi only version and one with Wi-Fi plus 3G. In addition to offering a color reading experience, as well as the ability to display light animations, the device will also allow users to view and edit PowerPoint files.

The new color E Ink Triton ePaper is capable of delivering up to 30 hours of battery life by using a light reflecting technology that leverages ambient light, instead of an electronic backlight, to create its color effect. External light passes through the device and reflects through a UV filter allowing the reflected light to display up to 16 thousand colors. It will also display text in up to 16 shades of grey according to user preference.

When it launches in the US, it is expected to carry a price tag at around $530 for the Wi-Fi only version.
