Lenovo IdeaPad U260 gets full launch, sub-MacBook price

Lenovo IdeaPad U260 official

Lenovo today confirmed the launch details for its inadvertent MacBook Air competitor, the IdeaPad U260. The 12.5-inch ultralight still has its 3.04 pound weight and is 0.71 inches thick at most, but its design both borrows from and improves on some Apple traits. It has a MacBook-like magnesium-alloy unibody outer shell that should be stiffer than usual and keeps relatively cool using both a "breathable" keyboard and the same airflow techniques behind the Portege R700.

The details reinforce the presence of HDMI and VGA for video out as well as Ethernet and two USB ports. Performance at the starting price isn't as well specified as originally mentioned, however. The U260 can still move up to a low-power Core i5 but reaches 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive only in its maximum configuration. Intel graphics are standard and could see it lag behind the 11-inch Air in visual performance.

Lenovo hasn't said what a base version of the new IdeaPad will entail, but it should ship on November 15 for $899.

    Serviceable, but

as usual, elegance goes to Apple.

    Fantastic

I love how it looks like a notebook. The VGA port puts it it above anything Apple can offer. If only they added a floppy drive it will truly shine.

It has more ports and a larger drive than the

MacBook Air and to a tech-head that means it's more useful than a MacBook Air. Oh, and it starts at a lower price than the over-priced and under-powered MacBook Air. A tech-head's delight means a consumer's nightmare. It also runs the most popular desktop OS on earth, which is known as Windows, which makes the Lenova a clear winner despite the fact that the MacBook Air is selling like hotcakes.

Yes, and it has Intel shared graphics which really suck and cannot drive even 10 year old games as compared to Macbook air with Nvidia chip.

Since when do people interested in today's high-quality games buy sub-notebooks?

And Intel's integrated graphics have much improved over the last 10 years. So much so that Apple has used them in their Macs. Or is that OK, because those would never be used for gaming?

    Oh...

Yes, and it has Intel shared graphics which really suck and cannot drive even 10 year old games as compared to Macbook air with Nvidia chip.

You mean that MacBook air with Nvidia chip that uses shared memory with the rest of the system?

Oh, I know, it's different, because the intel graphics is 'integrated with shared memory', which the nvidia is separately integrated with shared memory.
