HTC files for Evo Shift 4G name with USPTO

A pair of filings with the US Patent Office discovered today have revealed that HTC will call a future 4G smartphone the Evo Shift 4G. The documents were filed on October 21, and provide the first mention of such a device. As with the HTC Evo 4G and Samsung Epic 4G, the handset is likely to arrive at Sprint when it's launched.

Based purely on the name, it's also a possibility that the device will be an updated and WiMAX-capable version of the HTC Shift UMPC from two years ago, though this isn't likely.

Also noteworthy is that HTC filed for HTC EVO 4G Shift before changing the listing to HTC EVO Shift 4G. It's unknown what, if anything of significance this means, and could just be a simple mistake on the part of an HTC employee. [via Engadget]
